on the test
A screening test for the diagnosis of colon diseases, including colon cancer. The purpose of the test is to examine the lining of the large intestine, to get visual information and diagnosis of diseases, without the need for invasive measures.
The test is carried out with the help of a capsule, which is a shell the size of a vitamin pill, which contains a light source, two cameras on both sides of the pill, a battery and a transmitter.
The patient arrives at the institute on the morning of the test and undergoes the special preparation using the sleeve at the end of which the capsule is inserted into the large intestine.
The duration of the movement of the capsule in the large intestine is about an hour, during which the images of the intestine are transmitted to a system that detects whether there are lesions in the intestine that require intervention (removing a polyp or taking a biopsy).
In the event that bleeding, polyps, or other findings requiring treatment are detected during the interpretation (in a minority of cases), the doctor will recommend an endoscopic colonoscopy.
When and why is the test conducted?
A colonoscopy examination of the large intestine using a video capsule is done in several cases:
-
When a regular colonoscopy failed due to technical reasons.
-
In subjects who cannot undergo a colonoscopy due to medical reasons.
-
And in subjects who are afraid of colonoscopy.
